My favorite trick for creating a strong focal point is to leave a lot of negative space in the photo. When you have a busy scene like this, adding a strong focal point is very helpful. Without my hand, the smoke and rays of light would be the center of the attention here, but placing my hand there creates a small visual story with the hand as the center of attention. In the photo below I decided to place my hand in the foreground, reaching out towards the light and the smoke that you can see in the background.
